Brandon began his tenure with Blackburns’ ministries in 2013 and his passion and love continue to grow for the Blackburn House, Blackburns’ Chapel and the community of Todd. Brandon is a native of North Carolina, Moore County to be exact!
Brandon pursued graduate theological studies at North Park Theological Seminary for his Master of Divinity degree which included significant coursework from Garrett and Asbury seminaries. He earned his B.A. in Religious Studies from UNC Chapel Hill. Brandon is a certified candidate pursuing elder ordination in the Western NC Conference of the UMC. He expresses his passions for spirituality, reconciliation, community and social justice through helping friends and strangers cultivate loving relationships with God, themselves and others. He serves in this way through using his gifts of teaching, preaching, pastoral care, organizing and being a bridge-builder.
Brandon’s ministry background is in the areas of Christian Education, campus ministry, and missions. He has served as a campus minister at UNC Chapel Hill and with InterVarsity at the University of Chicago. Previous to his time serving with Blackburn’s Chapel, he served as Assistant Director of Christian Education at Martin Temple AME Zion Church in Chicago, also working in their community development and mercy ministries. Brandon also serves as a leader within the Christian Community Development Association. Brandon writes for several Christian blogs, magazines and collectives, including Sojourners, Patheos, and others. Brandon also regularly speaks on topics such as theology, race, politics, missions, and community. Before responding to the call to vocational ministry, he worked for several years in sales in the RTP area. In his free time Brandon enjoys sports (especially college basketball – GO TARHEELS!), weightlifting, listening to underground and classic hip-hop albums, collecting classic sneakers, reading and writing, good conversations and hanging with friends and family. Brandon is married to the lovely Erica Wrencher, and they have a son Phillip and another son Morris due in June 2016.
