As you have probably realized at this point, I am super good at keeping up with blogs…
I’m Lauren and I would like to start by telling you all a little bit about myself.
I am from a small town outside of Asheville, NC called Hoopers Creek (It’s ok-most locals don’t even know where it is…). My home town is actually quite a lot like Todd. It’s pretty community oriented and the same families have lived there for a long time, so everyone knows everyone else. Although Boone isn’t a very large town by any standards, it has been nice to get away from the constant noise of a busy college town and back to rural beauty and silence.
I am a super senior (woo hoo) at ASU. My major is Secondary English Education and I’m getting a minor in Social Work. I also work a few hours a week at an on-campus daycare with 3 year olds, which is awesome. It has been really difficult for me to balance school, work, extracurricular activities, and life in Todd. I haven’t gotten used to it yet at all. I have things to do in town almost every night, which causes me to be there all day and consequently spend rarely any daylight hours out in Todd. I really want to be able to spend more time out in Todd in our garden, working at Elkland Arts Center, and just getting to know the community better and appreciate the natural beauty of the area. Next semester, I will be student teaching at Ashe County High School, so hopefully I will have some more time to spend at home.
Some of my favorite things to do are run, write, hike, paint, garden, rock climb, draw, read, make crafty things, and spend time with my family and friends. I am really passionate about sustainability and taking care of the earth, people, and animals. I hope that treating God’s creation well is the concept that drives all things I do in life.
I can’t wait to get to meet all of you wonderful people in Todd!
